I was taking the dog for his evening walk and saw the moonlight shining on the front of my neighbor’s house. I ran and got my D90 and tripod.
My porch light is visibly reflected on the right hand side, and in the downstairs window. The warm orange glow from my porch light is also visible shining off of the top of the stones in the front. Now what’s interesting about this shot is that none of this warm light was visible to my own eyes. All I could see was the cold blue moonlight shining on the front of the house, and the right-hand side of the house was actually quite dark.
I’m sure there’s a very scientific reason for this, but if so, I don’t have it. It must have to do with the very long (25+ second) exposure.
The image below is also more consistent with how the scene actually looked to the human eye, and was taken with a 20 second exposure. Looks like 5 more seconds made the difference!
